Initiated in 2017, Alley Gallery was created by Ken for the Louisville Downtown Partnership to repurpose alley and back-of-the-building doors and other objects into an outdoor gallery featuring the work of local artists.
In all, 131 pieces of public art were introduced into Downtown Louisville’s public spaces transforming forgotten places with vibrant, local art.
And, the project paid for itself.
In 2018, Alley Gallery was one of only 5 public space projects in the United States to win the Pinnacle Award, the top annual award bestowed by the International Downtown Association.
Alley Gallery has since been emulated in over 20 cities across the U.S. and Canada.

After a fresh concrete pour for utility work, Ken worked with three property owners adjacent to this dark, unkempt alley in Louisville - partnering to refresh and reinvent a mostly forgotten, often avoided public walkway.
Renamed “Music Alley”, the new, publicly accessible space is now being enjoyed for casual walks and public events, day and night.

For 16 years, Ken worked with private property owner sponsors to build a fully funded, public space planting program peaking at 200 flower pots and 75 tree well plantings - creating a garden-like atmosphere in the middle of a harsh urban landscape for all to enjoy.
Ken also provides landscaping design and oversight for a number of private property clients.

Ken developed Louisville’s Bike Rack Sculpture Program for the Louisville Downtown Management District from 2001-2010.
32 Bike Rack Sculptures and Benches, all created by artists from Metro Louisville, were installed on Downtown Louisville sidewalks providing both parking for bikers and original artwork for passersby.
Ken presented the program as a best practice project at the 2007 International Downtown Association Annual Convention.
Inquired about by more than 50 cities, and emulated by many across the country, Louisville’s Bike Rack Sculpture Program is still the second largest collection of bike rack art in the nation.

In partnership with Louisville Public Works, Ken helped redesign litter receptacles that can withstand the rigors of public use but with an elegant look that enhances the public space and enables neighborhoods to self-identify.
Since their introduction, more than 1000 custom-designed units have been installed throughout Metro Louisville.
